The article presents the history of book occurrence in Yakutia, gives a brief review of the literature on this subject, and reveals the first information and facts on the existence of books in this region. The author analyzes the list of service books, sent to the Lensky Ostrog in 1638, which reflects the earliest evidence of book emergence, the facts of origination of private books sale-purchase and possession, the circle of owners, etc. The article reviews the mechanisms of book collections formation of the Religious Department, analyzes the registers of the books obligatory for ordering by the decree of the Ecclesiastical Consistory and the regulations for opening field churches with books for the people with a nomadic way of life. The author characterizes the churches of Yakutia as educational and spiritual centers of targeted dissemination and distribution of books, notes the features of mandatory distribution in the churches of Yakutia and the origins of formation of book orders from private booksellers by the Religious Department. A significant place in the article is given to the educational institutions of Yakutia of the period under review: their sorts, types, forms of ownership, geographic location, and a list of the bookselling firms that collaborated with both spiritual and secular educational institutions. The geography of orders, the organization and the quantitative and qualitative composition of the collections of educational and teachers’ libraries, the acquisition profiles via the printed catalogs of bookstores and the circulars, as well as the formation of book collections of the educational institutions of Yakutia are of great interest

Yakuts served the deceased as for a distant journey: dressed in road clothes, supplied with a food reserve, changing clothes, etc. The influential deceased went to a final journey accompanied by a horse and the servant. The world of the dead was somewhere in the West and was arranged in the same way as the sociocultural arrangement of earthly life of the living.

This paper aims to reconstruct the funeral rites of the early Yakut culture before arrival of Russians. It is based on the analysis of the burial composition and the ritual sphere of the funerary monuments of XIV–XVII centuries. The distinguishing feature of the burial composition of this time is a small depth of the burial pit, which on average is 0,48 cm deep. Box coffins are more common, and their parameters and structure are similar to those of the Hun coffins, with a similar external camera - grobovina, a special section for grave goods, and a lengthwise dividing wall in joint burials. The western orientation of the dead is associated with the traditional worldview about the geography of the world of the dead. The dead were buried horizontally lying on their back or in a crouched position lying on their side, sometimes with the head of the deceased resting on the saddle. The accompanying grave goods consist of household items, horse equipment, weapons and hunting tools, clothing and jewellery, as well as food for the journey in the form of lumps of a young horse. In At Dabaan III burial, there was discovered a pit with a dismembered horse next to the burial of the boy. The early Yakut burials are genetically related to the whole layer of ancient and medieval cultures of the Eurasian steppes in many respects. Their origin can be traced in archaeological complexes of Central Asia, Siberia and the Far East, where the funeral traditions of the medieval tribes of Baikal region and the Amur region are their nearest equivalents.

In this article, the readers are offered half-forgotten words from the vocabulary of shamanism of the Sakha people. These terms, introduced by us into scientific use. arc important in the sense that they can bring some clarity to the questions about the time of shamans and their religious practices. It is known that archaic symbols are the basis of many modem rituals, the sacred meaning of which is sometimes lost. In order to restore the forgotten religious terms, it is necessary to apply a comprehensive analysis that combines the materials of Ethnography, linguistics, semiotics and folklore. Etymological and semantic parallels of terms give reason to assert that shamanism has common origins among all peoples of the Altai language family. Here we give the terms, which together arc united by the archaic cult of goddesses-mothers and fertility, clearly traced in the shamanism of the peoples of Siberia and Central Asia.
